Freemasonry
A lifetime journey in Freemasonry is about supporting your local community and charities raising funds through membership.
If you have an interest in joining Freemasonry, you have taken your first step in the right direction.
The home of Freemasonry is in the United Kingdom, we have over 200,000 masonic members in nearly 8000 Lodge and Chapters around the country.
Each Lodge or Chapter raises money at a local level, giving out of our own pockets, sharing this with local charities, regional charities, and national charities. As Freemasons in the UK, we give to charity many millions of pounds every year. If this is aligned with your personality and you want to find the answer to a common question:
What are masons and who are masons?
Freemasonry can be such a diverse interest and has the potential for a lifelong affair that gives back continually. The beauty of how Freemasonry works is you only need to commit what you want or can, in time and effort. Tasks and roles are never forced upon you, Freemasonry will never ask you to place family, work or important interests ahead of what you want to get out of Freemasonry and how you can help Freemasonry in return.
A major part of your Masonic journey, you will find that nearly every event, meeting and coming together of your fellow brethren generates funds for charity, both in the local community and larger charitable concerns.
Which lodge should I join?
Finding a Lodge to join is normally about the location and then meeting the existing members to help give you that understanding of who, when and where. Lodges meet on different days of the week in different locations and with different goals or aims. If you are interested in joining Freemasonry, Carnarvon Lodge would love to help you start that journey.
If you are genuinely interested in joining Freemasonry and live in South Derbyshire, Burton on Trent or the neighbouring areas then please contact us by filling out the online form or emailing us at: hello@carnarvonlodge.co.uk
If you live and work outside these areas and are particularly interested in Carnarvon Lodge 1739 you can still contact and join us.
Pause and think: Why am I considering this?
As an individual, you will need to think long and hard about the reasons you are joining and they will be unique to you. There are hundreds of thousands of Freemasons’ and their reason for joining is just as unique as your own. It could be a need for friendship, camaraderie or comradeship that drives you. It could be a personal need to help others within your community. Or it could be a personal vocational reason based on the desire for a purposeful hobby that can help provide purpose and value. Whatever the reason, you need to be sure the Freemason experience will, ‘fit in’ to your lifestyle and life choices.
Am I eligible?
The eligibility criteria is simple. If you are a man, aged over 21, you may join any lodge regardless of your ethnic group, political views, economic standing or religious beliefs. However, on the point of religious beliefs, you need to believe in a supreme being. Therefore, if you do not believe in a supreme being there could be problematic issues with membership and incompatibility between your values and the Masonic values.
As with every organisation there is a cost and it is important to Freemasonry that you are able to afford the necessary expenditure. Having the financial ability to pay lodge subscriptions and contributions to charity, without having an adverse impact on your family or work is important to Freemasonry. (Normal annual subscriptions for Carnarvon Lodge at present is £150)
